    Hi,

Thinking of getting a thinkpad from the lenovo outlet, however i spend a lot of time in singapore and the UK as well (several months at a time). Is the warranty that comes with the thinkpad notebooks (i'm considering an X201) valid overseas?

    thanks in advance

As Lenovo Outlet is limited to the US, I believe the warranties are standard 1-year depot US-only warranties, and not the IWS. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though ;)

Never did took advantage of warranty of any electrical products I've bought in my entire life (Most are of lower build quality than Lenovo's Thinkpad).

Go ahead and buy the Thinkpad you desire.

it says on the site they dont accept non-uk credit cards. Has anyone tried using a non US credit card anyway to see if it works?

They don't accept foreign issued bank credit cards. It's a fraud prevention thing.

There's also no IWS for outlet purchases as there's no on-site, accidental or warranty upgrades.

How about eBay? I'm pretty sure you can find a machine with IWS.

cant find any new ones even close to the price on the outlet. even the used ones are more expensive. 800 USD is pretty much on the border of my budget. i initially wanted to spend less and get a x120e, but after seeing the x201's on the outlet for not too much more i wanted to go for it.

i'm not too bothered about the international warranty to be frank, a close friend of mine is a manager in the company that provides support for lenovo so he said he'll take care of it if in the unlikely event something happens.

only thing standing in my way of getting a X201 is the restriction on foreign credit cards. anyone know if those virtual credit cards would work?

I don't know anything about virtual credit cards, but eBay prices are pretty close to the outlet. Unless you're married to having the touchpad, the X200 might be worth a look. You might just need to hang out until the right deal comes along.

unfortunately, yes. i'm too used to a touchpad to go without one now. my first laptop was a toshiba satellite 2060CDS and it had the trackpoint, i got used to it but then my second laptop had both a touchpad and trackpoint and i gradually started using the touchpad more.
