got my x201 today.
First thing that I noticed is that the battery is loose.
Do you guys put paper between the battery and the body to fix this? Will putting extra stuff in there harm the machine?
Do you just leave it as it is?
-
i put a small piece of folded paper in between the battery and the battery compartment. It doesn't harm the machine.
-
what color did you use? -
Actually, that was the first thing I noticed with my X201 9-cell battery: loose, not snapping tightly, not fitting squarely. -
kind of annoying, but not a big deal.
same thing on my x60s.
it's been a while for me to actually own a thinkpad. my first one was a 600e, I think. owned x60s and t60 for a while.
never really be impressed by the build quality.
was using latitude d630 for work. that was a solid machine... no wobbling what so ever.
the thinkpads are always squeaking or loose somewhere... -
Ya...I can also do that.. My Laptop battery compartment is loose that's why I can use a folder paper at the corners of the compartment and fix my battery..
It's the best option, i found. -
Both my X41 and X201 have a little bit of play in the battery when it's cold. However, during the summer months, expansion plays hell with the battery - my X41's battery was nice and snug during the summer months. I've heard rumors that some play may have been left to address contraction and expansion, and I think there's at least some truth to that rumor. They could have mounted them a bit more securely, though.
-
is this by design? Do batteries expand when they get hot? I've seen them loose even when really hot.
-
It's just that the patent is not applied consistently across the product line: my T510 and T410 batteries snap in nicely and squarely, the 6-cell battery flushes with the notebook body beautifully: no loose, no woobling. Something wrong? -
-
Now now, "loose" is for losers. The legally approved term is "generously spaced battery design." It complements well your marketing highlight of "temperature compensated latch design."
-
Or maybe it should be marketed as 'weight saving' also, because presumably two mating solid pieces (where the larger piece has a fixed overall size) with larger clearences will occupy less total volume of material used, thus lower total mass.
Weight reduced and thermal expansion compensated latch design.
Seriously though, in my experience it depends on which battery. The larger capacity battery I have is more losse than the smaller one that came with. The color is slightly different too in a well illuminated environment. I think some batteries are probably manufactuered by a different OEM manufacturer that probably got their tolerances a little off? -
outlet has 6cell for 42 bucks. just ordered one. they also have the 65w adapter for 8 dollars... nice !
-
my friend used scotch tape to stick with battery edge and below laptop body on below side. this technique help battery to do not loose and nobody can see your stuff. now your laptop is cool
-
Nobody should have to stick ugly tape on their products to fix things. This isnt a hackjob DIY product.
I think they should probably be tougher on their suppliers on the tolerances. -
The customer must be respectfully served. I refuse to be Lenovo's unpaid factory worker.
