    loud beeping sound

    when turning the laptop on and off, theres a very loud beep sound

    is there any way to lower the beep??

    If you go into the BIOS (F1 before boot) you can DISABLE the beep. You may also want to disable the keyboard beep as well (happens if you mash several keys at once).

    You can only turn it on/off, to do that you need to go into BIOS settings so hold down the F1 button on bootup. I don't have a ThinkPad on hand right now and forget which option it is exactly.

    Edit: This thread should help, you don't have to use the BIOS to turn that off but you can:
