What a great little computer. Dual booting vista business and ubuntu gutsty on a 100GB 7200 RPM HD with 4GB memory (yes, i bought from newegg and installed myself). I am very happy and would recommend this machine to anyone.

How's the screen?

Hi typhoon,
Could you please post the specs for your t61p?
Thanks,

Do you have the TMD screen? At first this screen is terrible, then after a while you get used to it and its not so bad. I wish they could get a LG 14.1 and put it in instead of the Samsung and TMD screens they use.

I love my 15.4"
.
What RAM did you get? One of them Hot RAM Deals? -
Yes, I have the TMD screen. I am a research scientist and use linux 90% of the time and I must say that Ubuntu is spectacularly vivid. Much more so then Vista. The light bleeding (I think that is what you call it) is evident at boot up but not at all once the operating system is loaded. Yes, the screen does not look great at non-normal viewing angles, but I am hard pressed to think of a time when obtuse viewing angles will be an issue.
Here are my specs:
OS: Vista business and Ubuntu Gutsy
CPU: Intel Core 2 T7500
HD: 100GB/7200 RPM
Memory: 4GB (self-installed...very easy)
GPU: Nvidia Quadro FX 570M (128 MB)
Display: 14.1 SXGA+ TMD
Ultranav w/ fingerprint reader
DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer
PC Card Slot & Express Card Slot
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
Integrated Bluetooth PAN
9 cell Li-Ion Battery
3 year onsite 9x5 Next Business Day
Purchased during labor day sale. All in all, including memory, sales tax,etc....came to just over 1700. -
I bought the patriot RAM from newegg. Think it was ~$230 total.

I should add that I think it is a very good looking machine. Including it's sturdiness and a keyboard that is head and shoulders above any other notebook keyboard, I don't think there is a better notebook on the market.

Which hard drive did you get - Seagate, Hitachi?
love my 14" t61p
