    So is this the optical drive with connectivity options?

    What did cnet mean by 'peripherals are expensive"? You mean like printers and cameras, etc.?

    "The X40 starts at a reasonable $1,499, but it doesn't use the same media slice or batteries as other models (including the X31), and peripherals are expensive..."

    meaning batteries, memory, hard drive or anything specific to a notebook. A digital camera and printer are not specific to any one notebook.
