so the other day i went tanning with my laptop so i can listen to music while i lay there. after facing away from my t61 for 20 minutes, my keyboard started to melt from the heat of the sun. a bunch of keys on the right side started warping out of shape and not only that, my palm rest was messed up also.

after freaking out for a minute, i called lenovo's customer support. i just told them what happened and they asked me if i wanted them to replace palm rest and keyboard or i can do it myself. i choose the latter.

within two days my parts came and now everything is fixed :) . +1 for lenovo's outstanding service.

Wait, normal sunlight heat in the outdoors can melt the keyboard and palm rest?

So what happens if you leave the laptop in a hot car?

OMG. I got to be careful where I leave my T61 outside in SoCal.

Btw, what type of keyboard did you get (NMB, ALPS, CHICONY)? The same one as before?

We've been hearing so much about how Lenovo is delivering on these warranties.

I'm just curious... Do you just have the standard 1 year warranty or did you opt for the extended care plans?

Didn't you hear about the new revolutionary breakthrough from IBM's research center?

They manage to find a way to produce keyboards from... butter. That's right - butter!

    Amazing.

A reminder to all. The technical support team in Atlanta, Georgia is IBM NOT Lenovo.

I too love IBM's technical support team. I can't say the same thing about Lenovo.

Makes it easier to toast my bagel in the morning then.

But seariously, if the equipment fails from just being out in the sun then they better have good support to take care of it. I've left my Inspiron 4100 (basically all of the outside is plastic) in the hot car with no noticable effect so something seems wrong here.

Woh, I hope this doesn't happen to all T61s, imagine the recall

I guess I would need to be careful here in Nevada, the desert gets quite a bit hotter here then other places.

Btw, how long did you leave it out before you noticed it happening?

i have the standard 1 year warranty.
it was about a 90 degree day in sunny socal and i laid down for about 15-20 minutes then my keys were all fuxed up. i threw the old keyboard away now otherwise i would take pictures.
