I still use my T60 as my primary. I just use it as a desktop now more or less, but if I'm home, it's the computer I use.

In fact, one day, when x201s are configurable, I just might sell my X201 for an X201s...I'd have to do some more research into how much slower it is.

I've had a couple laptops with the low-voltage or ultra-low-voltage CPUs. I was disappointed in their performance.

But then, I'm a performance junkie... so I'll sacrifice battery runtime for a strong CPU.

Do you think the cpu in the x201s would be slower than the T7400 in my T60?

I don't know. You might check passmark CPU scores on their website. That's a rough indication of CPU power. They might not have a rating for the i7-640LM yet though.

As always it's going to depend on what you're doing. A CPU like the i7-640LM, which is found in the X201s, is now four generations newer than your Merom Core 2 Duo. I suspect if you push, it will be noticeably faster, but typical notebook usage doesn't tax the CPU all that much. If you're going on the internet, typing up a word document or listening to some music, I doubt you'd notice a difference.

I watch the clockspeed changes on my i7-620m and it will ramp up to over 3GHz just using ordinary everyday apps occasionally. But then I'm someone who looks for speed differences. It's definitely faster when doing any encryption or compression/decompression operations. I had an Acer (Aspire 1410) with an SU2300 in it which wasn't bad for an ultra-low voltage CPU but the i7 just blows it out of the water doing everything.

question about the fingerprint reader. does the x201 have the feature where you can turn on the computer and log on with just one swipe of a finger or is that only on the x201s

Yes, just download Lenovo's Fingerprint Reader software and enable the options under Power-on security. This feature is not unique to the X201 series.

yeah but the older thinkpads such as the x200 did not have this feature? is this determined by hardware or can the older thinkpads use this feature with newer software

    That is not correct.

I have not had any issues with a single swipe log on with any of my Fingerprint Reader capable ThinkPads. Off the top of my head my X61, X61s, X200, X200s and T60 have had no issues.

I think the person was asking whether the older thinkpads have the feature, where a finger swipe on the FPR can 'power on' the laptop. That feature was only introduced in the T400s.

If that is the case, I misunderstood.

i am not sure whether the X201 have this feature or not, does the X201 FPR have the red LED on top of the FPR?

the gallery on lenovo's page for the x201/s has it so i am not sure if it's only for x201 or x201s or both

If the wprime scores on notebookcheck can be trusted, the i7-640LM rocks the socks off my T7400, which is plenty fast. I think in a few months time I may be putting this X201 up on the market.

I keep seeing conflicting information about DP-sound. I know T500==>T510 included DP-sound but have not seen it confirmed for X200==>X201. The confirmation may be buried in another thread, but I didn't spot it with a quick search.
