I'm in the market for a new quad-core, portable machine and am so far unimpressed with Lenovo's options (offset trackpad, too thick/heavy, screen lottery(?), grease magnet etc.). The new Dell precision 5510 or HP Zbook Studio are looking very tempting, and thinner/lighter than the P50. Is there likely to be anything similar coming down the pike from Lenovo? I know I'm asking for some crystal ball gazing, but I thought someone might have some insight. From what I've read, a T450p is unlikely to appear and I'm not sure if the W-series is going to advance now the P-series is out.

Why are you comparing P50 to 5510 (instead of 7510) and to Zbook Studio (instead of Zbook 15 G3)?
-
They're all the most compact 15" Xeon/Skylake quad-core workstations from each manufacturer. My point was that Lenovo doesn't have anything in that class that's as thin/light as the Dell and HP models I mentioned. Is there another Lenovo I should be looking at?!
-
No, there's nothing right now, just like HP didn't have anything to offer a week ago. There are some rumours though...
-
According to this thread, a P50s (presumably the successor to the W550) is expected in a couple months.
-
No, I don´t think Lenovo will release such a compromised machine for now.
But you can look forward to new T-Series models coming down the way - there was a ThinkPad roadmap leak just some weeks ago... -
I don't keep up with the newer laptops much but I'm looking for a 14 or sub 14" 4lbs or less with quad core/xeon with vt-x/vt-d, at least 2 ram slots QHD resolution (QHD+ or 4k even better). Centered keyboard.

The P50 can have up to an M2000M GPU, up to 64 GB Memory, Raid options, and a couple more ports vs the Dell 5510 or HP having up to M1000M, 32 GB memory, no Raid, and a couple less ports. I fail to see how that is compromised for most applications.

That sounds interesting, although it'll probably have the off-center track/numpad I hate. And are lenovo's FHD and 4K screens gonna be on par with the best Dell and HP offer?
-
Lenovo is going all IPS for P Series, all FHD and 4K screen will be IPS. The 4K screen will be a premium panel with 98 % of NTSC gamut.
Compromised in cooling & battery life. What good is a thin & light "Ultraportable" workstation if you run out of power after a few hours? These machines are a contradiction in themselfs. Thin and light, so they are mobile, but bad battery performance, so they are not mobile (?).
might be time to say bye bye to Lenovo
