Does anyone happen to have any news or info on the mini SSD option in the new Thinkpads - T4/520 & W520 in particular?

I can see the tab where the option should be but there's currently no option available for these. The sales lady was a little cryptic on the phone and suggested it might become available in a newer version.. not quite sure what she meant by that; I doubt they're going to be revising a brand new model any time soon.

It is possible to purchase an Intel 310 (Soda Creek) mSATA SSD in a 40GB or 80GB capacity, as an OEM part from several third-party vendors. These have been shown to be compatible by several forum users already. I have one on order myself.

I'm assuming Lenovo is unable to get the part in sufficient quantity at this time, or that there is some other hangup. Meanwhile, getting the part aftermarket probably doesn't cost more, and may cost less than getting it from Lenovo. As a direct-sale OEM part (i.e., not from Lenovo), you should also get a three-year Intel warranty.

It's just appeared on their UK website but only for the T520. It's £222 for the 80Gb option. Now to consider whether given that you can pick one up for £131 which option to take.

Put it in that context I would go for the aftermarket option. A £91 premium for pretty much the same product is hefty.

I think it's mainly targeted at people who are not tech savvy enough to do it themselves.
