They may have accidently sent you 1GB instead. Call them back and inform them.

Did you order 1 DIMM or 2 DIMM ? If you order 2 DIMM then open it and look inside, see if there are 2 DIMM there.

I just ordered one and the same thing happened to me! I was wondering if one GB counted as the Intel Turbo Memory. Also, I checked the BIOS and it agreed with Vista that there was only 1GB installed. Would removing the handrest void the warranty?

No. Removing the handrest will not void warranty.

Did you order 2GB of RAM or 1GB of RAM and 1GB of Turbo Memory?

Definately ordered 2GB of RAM + 1GB Turbo. (It's written on the side of the shipping box!)

You can open up the computer to check the inside, if you ordered 2 DIMM and it came with one. Definitely a big problem.

About opening up the computer, in the hardware maintenance manual it says that the screws are nylon coated and should not be reused. I believe I saw somewhere that the coating is to keep the screws from working themselves loose.

Is there any harm in reusing the old screws to reassemble the computer? Having to get new screws each time would be a real pain.

That sounds ridiculous. You can reuse the screws as many times as you like, just make sure you don't strip the top of it.

That's what I thought too, but if you look at the manual that's what it says.

I've only owned HP laptops up to now, and I've opened up each one at least a three or four times (for cleaning, upgrades, repairs or just to see what's inside). I'm now thinking about a Thinkpad for the next laptop and was wondering what to make of those screwy screws.
