which would you prefer? flexview has the better viewing angles, better contrast, better picture quality blah blah blah. Most movies are widescreen now.

its annoying to watch movies where everything is skinny(if you want full screen).

so the flexview isn't so amazing that it's a must have at the expense of no wide screen (i've never actually seen the flexview model)? i was just wondering because a search on this forum gives the impression that there is no screen worth looking at after seeing one. and if movies were secondary, just something nice to watch on the side would the vote still go for wide screen?

Actually, if you mainly want to watch DVD movies, a glossy widescreen would be a better choice.

Since I have both an HD DV9000t with a glossy screen and a flexview, I am able to compare the 2 screens side by side. If you look head on at the glossy screen, it's actually not all that bad compared to the flexview. The glossy screen even makes the color transition more smooth compared to the flexview.

Maybe I am really spoiled.....but how many people are watching DVDs mainly on their notebook? My choice would be neither......I will use my hi-def TV for my viewing pleasure.
I only use my notebook to watch movies on flights and at work....which means I would be sitting in front of it to watch movies.....I also do not watch movies sideways.

The only reason you'd watch a DVD sideways is if a bunch of people are crowding around the laptop trying to watch it at once - in that case, you really just want to dig out a screen or tv or something.

if you're watching movies, whether they be high quality dvd's or pirated ones that you buy off ebay for 3 bucks or download for free, widescreen will serve your needs much better.

Widescreen... also if you are in the right lighting, widescreen and glossy would be even better for movies.

I would think that most people who buy a ThinkPad intend on using the machine for mostly school and business related affairs and not widescreen gaming and movies. There are plenty of vertically challenged laptops around, just visit your local Best Buy and Circuit City and that's all you will find.

Personally, I don't recall ever watching a widescreen movie on any of my current or previous laptops. That's what the home theater setup is for. However, if my laptop was the only "TV" at my disposal and I used the laptop predominantly for watching widescreen movies and not OTA (over the air), then sure, I suppose I would opt for the widescreen.

For now, I'd rather see more of the webpage, Word document, PDF, or pretty much anything I'm viewing with less scrolling and the best way to do that is on a 4:3 IPS Flexview. Unfortunately, since widescreens are taking over, I'm afraid that future programs will inevitably be written with widescreen viewers in mind.

Movies suck on a 14 or 17" laptop screen, period.
Get a TV monitor for cripes sake. Geez.

Likewise, webTV is as crappy as watching movies on a laptop

its subjective i guess. i watch flicks on my 13.3 incher all the time and i dont find it to be a problem...and this is from someone who also has an HD projector shooting a 120 inch diagonal on a greyhawk screen.
