Normally when I shut my T400 the crescent moon light comes on after a few seconds, and its really easy to re initiate my computer when I reopen it. My problem is that sometimes, this process doesn't work. I close the computer but the light doesn't come on. When I open it it wont start, and pressing the power button doesn't seem to have a effect. I don't know why its doing this, but I hate pulling my battery out just to force a restart. Whats wrong? What do I do?

Are you using Vista or XP? Have all the service packs?

This happens to me occasionally with a T61 running Vista. Strangely enough, hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del brings it back to life via the Task Manager.

rather than pulling the battery, you should at least be able to shut off using the power button... press and hold for about 5 seconds.

You shouldn't make it a habit, but occasionally doing so if your computer is locked up is okay, and shouldn't have any hugely negative consequences.

Did you do the clean installed by yourself?

it always happen if you don't use the factory OS.

    if yes,
I recomened you restore the original OS

On that note, similar situation here, but factory OS restoration isn't possible (No Backup). I did a fresh install. Is there any workaround for a non-factory vista installation?
