I just received my x61t with sxga+ monitor. but it's really not that bright even with external AC power.
I cannot find specification of the nit. But it's darker than my 3yr old Dell d610.
Any ideas?

Did you went to the BIOS and changed the max brightness setting?
-
The x61 is only rated at 150 nits, so of course it's going to be quite dim. Lenovo has boosted the brightness on the current X200 to 200 nits and 250 nits on the X200s. I own the X200 and I find the screen brightness to be quite nice and wouldn't want it any dimmer, so I can understand your concerns.

This is the X61t not the X61. It should be rated rated at 190 nits. If you think there's something wrong with it call support.
-
You should contact Lenovo to see if they can fix it. -
Ah, I see, didn't think there was a difference between the x61t and the x61
-
I would suggest calling Lenovo to verify that the screen is performing as expected.
If the screen is performing properly, and still is not bright enough, you should consider the x200 Tablet. The x200T is offered with an extremely bright (and high quality) 285nit LED display. However, the resolution is only 1280x800 vs. the 1400x1050 on your X61T. -
I would call support and have them check the backlight. We bought 85 X61t's and a very large percentage of them had a backlight problem. Lenovo did fix it quickly, but still an annoyance.
When working properly, the screens are very nice. -

I used to have a X60T with SXGA+, it was also dim. It felt like it was 150-170 nits. It's a fact that the FFS technology has lower transmittance than TN resulting in a lower brightness. Also the higher the resolution, the finer the pixels so less light will get through and it will be less brighter than a XGA screen.

maybe we could compare this quantitatively, i.e. we set the screen to maximum brightness and take photos with a camera. With given shutter speed and iso (shutter 1/100, iso 100) the screen should be equivalently bright on the photos.
my x61t screen is not bright
