To put it simply, how can I get DVI or HDMI out on my T400? I know lenovo makes a docking station/port replicator, but is it fully compatible with the T400?
And is there any other cheaper solution besides a $200 docking station?
Thanks for the help...

You can get the docking station for less refurbished on eBay.

and will the advanced mini dock work perfectly fine with the T400?

You could use this USB adapter if you don't need 3d acceleration.

yeah, all the t60 docks are supposed to work with the t400. They should support any features that you have in your laptop, meaning that since your laptop has the ATI 3470 which supports dvi, it will work. The dial up modem connection probably won't work if you dont have that option equipped on your t400.
If you need it right now that Id go for the advanced mini dock. If you can wait, theres a rumor that lenovo is going to be relesing a new dock with some upgrades, like HDMI or DisplayPort. Lenovo hasnt confirmed it so the release date can literally be a year away. Im personally waiting for the new dock, unless there is a great deal on the current one or if it doesnt come out by early 09. -

The choices i see on the lenovo website for T400 video are:
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 with 256MB
don't both of these have hdmi out? -

Thanks for this great info! But do you anyone who's used the EVGA VGA-to-DVI adapter in the T400 or any other laptop? If yes, any problems
displaying widescreen DVD movies via the card’s DVI output to a large screen plasma or LCD TV? Will it work fine with Windows XP? Is it hungry for CPU power (though my T400 would have a T9400 processor or better)?
need DVI or HDMI on my T400...
