if you need it- go ahead that is a good price for an i7 with 650M. Do SLI and you would be happy.

Yeah I mean its got everything I was looking for except I'm not crazy bout the resolution...but I'm guessing there really isn't much different between the y400 and the y480

If you haven't bought it yet you can log into the Lenovo Barnes&Noble. It only cost $709 on there.

I recently bought this laptop and I was on the same boat as you; hesitant because of the resolution. Tried out some laptops with the same resolution and while it wasn't ideal, it was something I could get used to in time. If resolution is a big concern for you, the only other notable laptops off the top of my head that are 14 inches would be the M14x and the Gigabyte U2442N but both would be a couple hundred bucks more than the Lenovo.

Damn I just placed my order too...actually the one I got for 799 is the model higher then the one for 709...on that site the model I got is 809...but still the only difference in the twonis that turbine I got has the 16g ssd drive...but personally I wwould have rather saved the extra 90 bucks then have the 16g ssd drive...maybe I should try and cancel tomorrow....

Actually every laptop I've owned only had the 1366x748 with the exception of the samsung series 7 that had 1600x900 matte screen...honestly I hated that matte screen on the samsung..it always seemed dark and veiwing angles to me were bad. That's one of the reasons why I sold it...so to me unless I have it sitting next to a better hd screen I probably wont know a difference....I just hope its better then my samsung :)

I jumped on this deal as well after looking for a laptop for roughly 3 months. I really wanted the sony vaio s15 but the value of the y400 cant be beat for the price. Mine should be here tomorrow according to UPS.

I never had a full hd screen before so I dont think itll bother me at all but I do wish they could at least offer a 900p resolution. If they did, I wouldnt have thought so long before buying it. The carbon fiber look was pretty interesting too ha.

I received my y400 on the 24th, so far I love it, been playing swtor non stop and the screen res is hardly noticeable, my only concern is temperatures. it generally stays in the mid 70's but every now and then it spikes to 93* C, too high in my opinion, so I ordered the ultrabay fan and bought a targus cooler stand, hopefully that will help bring temps a bit farther down, other then that, this thing is a power house, love it!

For anyone thinking they missed the boat, I've been watching this machine since black friday sales (and in fact took the plunge just before xmas, also for the $799 price for the 95232FU). I've continued to check in at lenovo since then, and there has been one version or other of the Y400 with a price in this ballpark. Best I've seen is $729 for the 59360114 and $799 for the 95232FU. (As I write this they are $749 and $849 respectively.) So if you've decided to get this baby (and I recommend it based on my experience thus far) just check back at lenovo.com regularly and when the price for the model you're interested in hits your sweet spot, go for it.
[I also got an extra $50 refund from my credit card going to lenovo through them, but that offer expired and hasn't repeated. But you may also find similar ways of trimming that price just a little bit more if you look.]

With regard to comments about screen resolution, I too had that concern, but have found in practice that I haven't noticed it at all on the 14" screen. Definitely do your own due diligence at your local B&M store so you can actually see for yourself, but I have no regrets at all on that score.

I leave it out. No need to have your battery charging all the time!

If you don't care about the 16gb ssd and would rather save the $90, then go ahead and cancel. Also, if you buy the one for $709, you can add in a couple more bucks and buy a 128gb msata ssd for around $100. Just my two cents.

Yoh dont need to, i leave it in and run lenovo's power management for max battery life, it hovers the battery around 60% never over charging it, this should be better for battery life then leaving it out completely

Yeah I order it around midnight on the 3rd and called to cancel at 9 am the next morning but it was already to late as the order was processed. It was shipped out today with an eta of Monday delivery. Still would've been nice to save the extra cash but oh well.

Too bad no touch screen for this - even at the added cost of $150 (reasonable value added cost). Win 8 is out of sorts with no touchy. Coupled with the Yoga feature - this would have been no brainer and would have been selling like hotcakes!

The resolution is not the issue at all, it's just that 768p low res screen tends to have low quality panel with low contrast, bad viewing angles, and low color gamut and not even remotely close in covering the SRGB making colors look dull and washout.

Small update, I got the additional fan, and have the laptop on a targus twin fan chill mat, the targus fans blow directly into a big mesh vent on the bottom of the y400, temps didn't change at all, I checked my BIOS for the turbo boost but I don't have access to that, I remember seeing a thread about how Lenovo has a "locked" BIOS or something, whatev's no big deal, so I went to my power management for now and turned the max processer state to 80%. Since that I haven't seen a temp over 76*C and I've had no lag at all with SWTOR running for pretty much the whole day (6 hours straight at one point) so I guess that will be my fix for right now. Thanks for any info and input guys and gals.
