ok I am a bit confused, since I will get the camera the number of antennas will be reduced to 2x2. And I have these two options.

    Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 (2x2 AGN)
    Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 (3x3 AGN)

    or the ThinkPad bgn Wireless

    can I still pick the 6300 3x3 if I have a webcam?

does anybody have any detail in the difference of performance between the thingpad bgn wireless and the intel 6200? i have read many threads but none with some real data. I have had the Dell wireless card in my e6400 and it was working just fine. is it worth the extra money, I am on limited budget really.

I've also read about people having problems with the 6200. can anybody give me some suggestions? this is the last thing I have to decide before placing an order.

    thanks!

nope - having the 3x3 antenna does not leave space for the webcam. You have to essentially choose either the 3x3 antenna or the webcam.

Choose the 2x2 antenna with the webcam and the intel 6200 card. The thinkpad bgn wireless is manutactured by ralink(I think so) and I've read that there are issues with the card. I'm on a 6200 myself and am pretty happy with it.

quick question, can anyone tell me if putting in a 6200 card is as easy as buying one, taking out the thinkpad bgn card (is it in the express card slot or somewhere else?), popping in the 6200, and then downloading/installing the drivers? do i need to uninstall the thinkpad bgn driver? do i need to do anything else?

i just purchased a X201 with thinkpad bgn and didn't really look into the wifi options. i think i could appreciate the 6200. thanks!

Putting a new Wi-Fi card is very easy, the X201 Hardware Maintenance Manual will provide you the information to do this procedure.

If you plan on to buy an aftermarket Intel 6200 card then make sure it's a Lenovo version and not others (Dell, Acer, Toshiba etc). Lenovo/IBM are notorious for locking out Wi-Fi cards that are not branded of their own. While there are systems which has modified BIOS' to bypass this, for convenience its best to stick with the Lenovo branded cards.

Afterwards it just a matter of installing the Wi-Fi drivers for it. Most likely you need to have them on hand (download the Intel drivers before installing the new Wi-Fi card) as from experience even Windows 7 doesn't have the native drivers to install these cards correctly on its own.
