looking for a new laptop as expected from my previous thread. did a lot of research and instead of asking "what should i get?" and the answer always being "it depends", i decided to make a pro/con compare/contrast list.
must for me is 1600x900, dedicated vid card, and under or around $1k are my 3 requirements. having an ultrabay for harddrive expansion also kinda a big plus. please append to the pros/cons of the list, not models
y410P
PRO - cheapest, best for gaming, ultrabay? (couldn't find much)
CON - biggest/heaviest, worst battery, ideapad so build quality probably worse
t430(s)
PRO - avg across the board
CON - t440 specifics not announced yet could be better at same price
t440
PRO - obvious hardware upgrades, what else?
CON - wait 2 months, no ultrabay, new weird technologies that may just be beta tested (such as dual batteries)
t440p
PRO - obvious hardware upgrades, ultrabay hopefully, what else?
CON - wait 2 months, looks as big as the y410p
t431s - out of price range
t440s - out of price range

you forgot u430, flex 14 and g410
Both T440p and Y410p are same weight. -

Well, what are your uses?
If you aren't gaming, T440p seems like a winner, though if you need something now, i would go for T430. Y410p if you need to game.
Avoid T440, as it will be the "el cheapo" thinkpad. -

any other thoughts on pro/con i'm missing?

I would wait for the T440s prices and then see if the budget can be expanded a bit. Lightweight and offers good performance. The T430's screen doesn't get good reviews though I never used it. The T440p will be about a 1 lbs. or so heavier than the T440s and will be thicker, but if you specifically need that extra performance, then just wait for that. It is only you who knows all the details about your situation, therefore, you should figure out what you're really looking for. Do you really need a super light laptop? Do you really need the best CPU that you can get? Do you really need that discrete graphics option? Are you the type of person who keeps their laptops for 6 years? If so, then consider the 14" that offers the better performance.
Only you know the answers to these questions.
need new laptop - compare/contrast 14" lenovos
