    ive a 14" T42 (with ATi 9600)

it runs really slow with Vista so I think I need new ram
anyone can reccomend any new RAM? I have 512mb as of current

Also the modular optical drive is broken, so I bought both an external HD and an external drive for those needs, but was wondering what else I should fill that empty area with

All ram brands run the same. In order to fill the empty space you can buy a travel bezel, you can order one by calling the customer support.

any RAM you reccomend? I think the T42 was using only DDR1. last time I opened it up, only one RAM slot could be easily upgraded, is the other one soldered to the mobo?

No it is not. It is located under the keyboard.
