    Hi all, I am installing a new HDD into my IBM A21m notebook. I will install XP PRO on it from installation disk. The disk is not found on boot up.
    HDD = Western Digital WD800BEVE (80GB ATA100 5400rpm).

    Anyone know what I should do to get it running?

    Grateful for some help on this!

    Thanks

    Jerry

    heh.

    Halobox is indirectly pointing out that some older computers arent capable of seeing large disks. In the past, manufacturers had to release an updated bios to allow the computers to see disks larger then 10-20 GB.

    I am unsure what the up'most bound is for the A21m, but it shipped with either a 10 or 20 GB drive...I'm willing to bet that 80GB is just too much.

    Actually I looked that up and it appears the last BIOS from 2003 might support a 80GB drive. I thought when I referenced the article I provided the link for, it had a hard disk driver but after looking at it again, it appears to be for issues after installation. So I'm back to my original guess, the current BIOS doesn't support the drive.
