Well, I ended up ordering an new Ultrabay for a T61 - the only one I could find - of course it's thinner than the space in my R61, but slides in and presumably connects OK. Flops up and down of course at the outer end, but I can fix that with a strip of neoprene.

Anyway, the little balloon says the drivers installed OK and the drive (Hitachi 7200rpm/100GB) is 'ready to use'... Meanwhile in 'Computer' there's no new drive shown(?)

Anybody know why it doesn't show up? I guess I'll just reboot and keep my fingers crossed. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks
    Dave

It goes without saying...is the drive formatted?

If not it won't show up in Windows Explorer.

Thanks guys. I finally figured out how to initialize and format the new drive. I just hadn't had to do it in years.

My other (EIDE) hard drives were obviously preformatted, and I'd gotten used to just plugging them in and everything working right away.
