I have a new X220 (i7, 8gb g.skill ram, intel 310 80gb, 320gb 7200 hdd). When I first got it, I did a clean UEFI install of Windows on the SSD, which worked fine. Now, I've decided that I want to use the restore disks that I made when I first got it to install to the intel 310, but I can't boot from the disks!

    Times it lets me boot:
    • Bios set to UEFI only, booting from W7Pro Retail disk
    • Bios set to UEFI only, booting from Intel 310 ssd with retail windows installed
    • Bios set to Legacy only, booting from factory 320gb hdd

Times it won't let me boot:
    • Bios set to Both (UEFI+Legacy)
    • Bios set to Legacy only, W7Pro Retail disk
    • Bios set to Legacy only, factory restore disk **** This is the one I want to be able to do!

Any help or suggestions are welcome

Similar problem happened to my X220 after using it for 5 hours. However, I couldn't boot using any bios mode. I have the Intel X25-M 160 GB, which turned out to be defective, and they sent me a new one that works so far.

I am no expert so the only thing I can suggest is contacting tech support on 866-426-7378 and hopefully they will be able to help you. They were very much helpful to me and they really knew what was going on. I think they are open 24/4 but don't take my word on that.

    Good luck.

If you are going to install to the mSATA drive, you certainly need a valid install disk. If the disk set you created is hosed, you are going to need to either order a set and pay for it, or use the Windows DVD and boot from that.
