I am waiting on my 14 inch T61 to be shipped am just want to make sure that there will be no problems putting in a new hd in it right away. Do I need anything besides the hd?

This is what I am looking at getting:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145160

just wish I could find it a little cheaper, or a 7200 rpm hd with a little less capacity for less money

Does anyone know of a cheap case for the 60 gb one that is coming with the notebook? Id like to turn it into an external hd.

You're going to need a set of Restore Discs and Drivers (SWSETUP), or a copy of an OS. The laptop will not just "work" if you put in a new HDD, you'll get a "no OS found" error.

the only thing you're really going to need is a small Phillips screw driver

Buy an UltraBay Serial ATA Hard Drive Adapter and just throw your 60 GB in that. That way you will be able to hot swap it.

You can hotswap it with the optical drive (DVD-RW drive). Advantage is that it is all integrated if you do not use the optical drive much.

I have alink to all the install videos in my sig.

No you wouldn't be able to use the DVD function at the same time as using the hard drive adapter. You have to pull out the DVD drive and insert the HDD in its place, but it's pretty easy to do and like Jeremy said it's hot swappable.
