    Hi, I do own a Lenovo 3000 v200 series laptop wich includes a T7300 2.0 ghz processor, and 2.0 gb ram.. I installed W7 x64 and now I cannot live without W7.
My softwares uses are: ACad (only 2D).. and CSI SAP2000 for structures calculations.
So my big qestion is: what to buy? there are 2 laptops in the market of thinkpad (What I think would be a very good upgrade, moving from the lenovo 3000 series), and these 2 laptops come with i7 procesor but differs from 2 last letters.
If the performance is almost the same, but the x201s has the addon of being more battery power saver, and magnesium alloy case, I would pay the differnece, but not if the proccesor coming on it it's less powerfull than the x201..
    If I order it: it would be a w7x64, 4gb ram, 320@7200rpm... all this about usd$ 1599..

other westion is: Do you think can i get better prices calling the 1-866-think number on the lenovos webpage?

What do you say about it???

With your price tag and a must for CAD and similar software I'd go for the W510 hands down. You'd get a far more powerful (in terms of graphics) system for the same (if not lower) price, except for the battery life. Plus the USB 3.0 ports and 4 slots of memory, making the laptop more future proof.

Although you may benefit from the increased power of the W510, it seems your CAD usage is not very intensive - I am not familiar with those applications, but I would assume CSI SAP2000 is mainly dependent on CPU, although ACad would benefit from a discrete GPU (although 2D shouldn't be all too bad).

You'll probably find that the X201 is not only more affordable than the X201s, but also packs more of a punch CPU-wise. Obviously, there is a sacrifice in battery lifetime, though. If battery run time is not the number 1 priority for you (and the X201 can still get quite a bit out of a 9-cell) and WXGA is enough resolution for you, I would recommend the X201.

ok, but is there too much difference between 2 processors? Beacuse I like the magnesium alloy on the x201s, and the light weight of it. But i really dont know differences between these 2 i7 cpus..

Both are 25W and the difference is 0.13GHz -> Nothing. They won't affect you battery life differently. So the CPU isn't your concern.

If you want a 12', I assume that portability hence light weight is crucial => X201s.

i think OP is asking about the i7 in X201 and X201s. Of cos the 2.66Ghz is going to be better than the 2.13GHz one. But question is if you need that extra performance.

fyi, the graphics card in x201s is slower too, twice as slow as the x201, so you might want to take that into account if you do CAD.

Does not the X201s run on 25w CPUs while the X201 CPUs are 35w.

as far as the intel gfx the x201 is 500 to 766mhz on demand and the x201s is 266 to 500mhz when required.

So thank you OldGhost for your help. I think that i should go with the x201 or just wait for Lenovo uses the case they're using on x201s to configure the i7-620m full power cpu!!...
I'm still thinking, if i like the lenovo 3000 v200 what would be with this thinkpad!! it would be the best! haha

Now I'm confused. Sorry, was looking at x201s strandard and enhanced. So ignore my previous post. Yes the battery life will be affected by 10w difference.
