its been a few months since i got my t400..when the laptop is opened
the bottom right part (where the thinkpad sign is, close to the fingerprint reader) when I press down it creaks and it looks like it is moving when touched. I'm not touching to hard, just a good press. When applied to the left side, this doesn't occur.

Is this normal? If not, what can I do (return, fix)? Im not sure if hte warranty covers something like this or if I have to shed money from my pocket

You just have to give customer service a buzz and request a brand new palm rest to be sent to you. My friend and I both had this type of squeaky palmrest.

    you dont need anything new.

just remove the palm rest and put in back in place. what happened with mine was a piece was not snapped in on the inside and that was what caused the squeak for me.

try that out. if it doesnt work give them a call.

I had the same problem and called 'Customer Support'. They sent me a new keyboard and palmrest the next day. There are instructions for palmrest/keyboard installations on the Lenovo site and 'Access Help' file on your computer under 'Thinkvantage'. I haven't tried installing the pieces yet as I am away from home. But I tried loosening the screw a bit on the bottom right and it fixed the creaking problem. Give it a try!

Google IBM technical support/customer service. something in the lines like that.

The instructions are all on the website. You can even see videos of it if you try hard enough. There's a video on youtube for sure.

I've heard this is due to the hard drive access cover being tightened too much, although I don't have personal experience.
