should i charge the battery to full first before first use?
or just plug in the a/c adapter and start using it right away?
any useless thinkvantage programs i should delete?

You can just plug in the AC and go for it.

I'd do a clean install of XP or Vista... but if you like the factory image with its bloatware, uninstall at will.

theres no need to open up your machine. just tell us how does it look? all you need is your system's serial number and type. you can get both these details from the lenovo status page. see this thread for more info: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=297359

"Fn" (bottom left) + "Home" or "End" keys (top right)

Power settings can be configured if you double click on the battery bar.

    Enjoy

I'm assuming you want to conserve power/lower operating temperature. Go into the battery settings and change "System Settings." Lenovo's power manager allows you to set different maximum CPU speeds for batter/ac (and also for different power profiles).

help please? i cant find it in the manual
also how safe is doing a factory reset? it's the "recovery thing" at the beginning of the boot right? because so far after i installed zone alarm 2009 none of my programs have been functioning properly and ZA is blocking my wireless half the time.
i really want to create recovery discs before tying to do the factory reset just in case
    thanks in adaved

There's a thread on it, try looking for it.

    But in a nutshell:
Go to "start" --> "Computer" --> double click on "Lenovo Q:"

Then click "Create Recovery Media" and follow the directions.

You'll need 3 DVDs or you can use 1 CD + 2 DVDs. Either way 3 disks will be created.
