Anyone have a minute to help me out with this?

I plug the cable into my old thinkpad, boom! interweb. Plug it into t60, no connectivity. Followed the help index, repaired connection, re-established IP address, turned off firewalls, did everything it asked, ends up saying contact network administrator every time. But then I plug it back into old thinkpad, and it works, so it HAS connectivity, or I wouldn't be posting this.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Are you plugging a cable from a cable modem into the laptops or are you plugging in a cable from a router. I have had problems with people who run with their cable modem plugged directly into the computer. When you change computers the cable company sees a change in the MAC address and doesn't assign an ip address.

Andy makes a good point. Unplug the power to your router or modem when you make the switch.

Also, have you used your T60 before on a network? I would check the drivers as well. What kind of connection is it? Static IP, Dynamic IP, etc?

Hey, that was it! I am plugged directly into a modem... btw is that a bad idea in general, should I buy a router even if I stay plugged in (I don't trust wireless security)?

Thanks much guys, am interwebbing from new thinkpad now.

    Good!

Directly connecting should not be a big deal, just make sure you have a firewall running.

Wireless is pretty secure with WPA as far as I'm concerned.
