I remember my previous Thinkpads came with spare TrackPoint covers in various forms.
They stop doing that?

yes they are no longer shipped with new thinkpads.

I got all three with my X200t.
-
T500 came with 3, X201i came with none.
But you can now order a package of spare covers.
I just wonder what kind of savings this brought Lenovo? But I guess most of the people never used the spare covers (mine are still untouched, safely put away), or at least that is what Lenovo thinks so they stopped shipping them.
You can pick up a spare package at many stores, for example: Amazon.com: Thinkpad(r) Trackpoint(r) Cap Collection, Three Styles Of Trackpoint Caps, Inclu: Electronics -
I love the cat tongue one, more precise than other two for me.
My R400 came with none but the original one and so did T410.
I tried to remove one from T410, but it seems that it cant be done, which is weird, because one on my R400 was simply coming off and if I turned my laptop upside down, then trackpoint would simply fall off. -

I was a little bit miffed that my X201 didn't come with extra caps, but not enough to be concerned. I have an entire bag of official IBM caps, ranging from the super old school type that were just a roundish nub, to all the modern designs. I really need to track that down sometime soon, my 560X is in dire need of a new cap.
I never really liked any of the other variants, but I wouldn't mind having a few extra traditional caps come with my unit. I like to make sure my ThinkPad is sporting a clean one before we go anyplace special....like on vacation, or to a tech conference. -
How did you get you hand on a Google Cr-48. I wanted one so badly, Did you applied for it from Google.
Sorry to go off topic -
. But rules are rules I guess.
My X200 didn't come with spares so I had to feebay them and I'm glad I did as I got to use a different variety of trackpoints.

Ive tried 3 types. My favorite one is the silicone type one that is shipped by default. THe old furry one is more sharp on the fingers and certainly gets really dirty and needs to be changed periodically.
no spare TrackPoint covers anymore?
