I have a t500 I purchased with a 80gb hard disk space. I noticed when I first bought it that my available space is only 15 gb. why is that?

when i did you purchased the T500, sounds like it was way back?

how come you just brought this up? If I notices it was only 15Gb left when it was new, I would contact Lenovo or seller right away, unless you bought it from somebody else and he left all the crap on the disk.

Sounds like you have a 15GB partition.
see here for instruction on how to resize a vista partition. Windows 7 might be the same, you didn't say what OS your using. When using the disk management tool you might see a hidden partition that contains an image of your harddrive when it left the factory. You might want to leave this intact incase you ever wish to restore the factory image.

Since he bought the computer from Lenovo, it should not contain any hidden partition though. anyway, hope gmoneyphatsytle is right and you get what you want back. good luck!

Lenovo's install of Vista does take up quite a bit of space. You could, after making your recovery disks, clear out the Lenovo and SWTOOLS partitions and try a clean install.

google Disk State and browse the biggest files on your HDD.
