    i know i cant use the thinkpad on a bed as it will overheat, but if bend the screen 180 degrees, mount the thinkpad on a balancing stand and then use it with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. i dont have the problem of heat or safety, but i am wondering if this is safe for the internals or the bottom plastic to keep the TP in such position. i also saw heat loss in that position. graphics card in halo 2 runs at 70 degrees rather than at 75 when on a wooden surface

    here is the example

    | ->screen
    | -> keyboard
    <_> ->stand and surface

    He's saying he wants to mount the laptop vertically. Basically open up the laptop all the way, than stand it on edge.

    And no it shouldnt make a difference, there is nothing inside the laptop that is gravity dependant.

    It should be fine if the stand and method of keeping it standing is stable.

    Thanks guys, i am just afraid balancing the TP vertically may crack the bottom plastic. i even installed some cloth in the bottom of the stand

    I like how you said "installed." heh. You should be ok as long as it isn't hitting against a hard surface repeatedly.

    it is also a better cooling solution. installed TPfan control and set the fan to smart 2. a hour of halo2 does not even jump the gpu past 60 degrees. the room temperature is 26 degrees. earlier i am pushing a solid 70-75 degrees. looks like i am not getting a cooler :)

    The access to free air flow probably helps a lot.
