Just placed my order for my new T42. specs (2373m3u):

    1.8 Ghz
    60 GB 7200 rpm
    bluetooth (what version? not sure...)
    14.1 " SXGA
    1 GB ram
    6-cell battery

came to about 1700, and then an extra 100 for tax. The unit came with a base 512 MB of ram and i opted for the free 512 stick promotion. Had I ordered the machine a few weeks ago during the battery promotion, I'd have had an extra 9-cell, but would have had to buy the ram. So I think that I came out ahead, especially since I already have an ultrabay slim battery. I would have liked to get a 2 Ghz processor but those seem to only be in the T43s, and they dont have any T43 models with both bluetooth AND a 60 GB 7200 rpm drive. So this was the most bang for teh buck.

almost convinced myself to buy a leather case but figured id post in teh accessories forum first :)

and - since it is from IBM, not the ebay guy (thinkpadworld) - the warranty is direct from lenovo. i paid with a platinum mastercard so I have an extra waranty year on top of the 3 year tha came with the machine.

I will definitely post a review of the unit when i get it in - but teh ship date is listed as 11/28 right now. Still, my sakles rep told me that the 2373m3u is a popular config so they might get them in sooner.

    now, the waiting...

Congrats, the 7200 drive will make more of a performance difference than the CPU. A couple weeks isn't too bad.

nice config there aziz, 14.1" SXGA is my favorite type of screen for the T42, it's just the perfect compromise of screen size to keep weight down and high enough res to get more on the screen but not so small that it's unreadable.

thanks guys - am really looking forward to doing some benchmarking for comparative purposes. Can you suggest links to the various tools you use in your reviews?

as for screen, it was actually providence, not design - this T40 that I use now was configured by my advisor, and it just came as a 14.1 sxga. hadd he ordered a xga scren instead, or a 15 inch, id have been using that for the last two years. I was pretty ignorant of what exactly the specs were - would you believe that i wasnt even sure whether my screen was 14 or 15 until i busted out the measuring tape prior to posting on the forums here for teh first time? :)

Does the warranty really matter if bought at lenovo or from ebay? Aren't you still under the same warranty? ebay definitely has some good prices but not the exact config like no 7200 and bluetooth... :(
