    Hi,
i have Lenovo R60. The laptop runs flawless otherwise - I installed the PCdoctor software and it passed all the hardware tests. The problem I have is the following - it doesn't boot every time I want it - it boots once in five tries ( aproximately). Once it boots - it runs flawlessly and I can do as many restarts as I want. The strange thing is when it refuses to boot - it gives me different types of messages - most often are four by four times sort beeps on black screen; sometimes appears the 0192 error- ''embeded security hardware tamper detected''; and sometimes there is no sound and no mesages - just a blank screen. I've googled a bit about it and most of the opinions are that if there's a problem with the security chip - the whole motherboard needs to be replaced. Is this really the case? But why than mine starts after a few atempts? Isn't it possible that the chip is some kind of loose and can be fixed? It is such a pity to throw a flawlessly working and otherwise very well made dual-core laptop just for this nonsence problem.
Thank you in advance for sharing your opinions!

the R60's security chip should be physically soldered to the motherboard like the T60. If the laptop starts to show message such as this, then this is usually a good indicator that the security chip is about to give up.

If the security chip fails then the whole motherboard needs to be replaced. Failure of the security is rare but it does happen.

    So you have few choices:

    1. sell the machine for parts.

    2. keep the machine and use it till security chip fails. In which case
    a) get a new motherboard and replace it.
    b) get the post warranty warranty (thinkplus) now, and when the laptop fails or develops this problem again, then get the laptop fixed with the new registered warranty.

no hacks, if there were then the security chip was just a useless toy.
