I bought a new lenovo 3000 Y500 0768 laptop recently say some one month ago .It came with windows vista home basic installed on it.I found the Os to be damn slow ,so I decided to switch on to xp professional.I completed this task successfully......everything was going on well at that time.I installed the drivers from lenovo support website .(actually i downloaded them before the change of the OS).
later i found that the network controller was not installed........every time i log on it shows me new hardware found......................from the device manager i found that the problem is caused by that thing.............internet was not working on my laptop
.........no net,no DC++, nothing then i decided 2 install ubuntu 7.10 on my laptop
with the help of dual booting...........now net is working but i don't want to use net in linux as u can't watch youtube videos ,no gtalk, and so on...........actually I am a student of a reputed institution in India.............it uses proxy settings and so on.so it is difficult for me to download and install some software repositories in ubuntu...............so somebody plkease help me out..............

There has to be a suitable driver for the Network Controller, where did you search?
Here is what I found for XP with your Y500.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/license.do?filename=mobiles/l4etn03us24.exe
That should solve the missing driver issue.
