hey, i recently updated a lot of my drivers including video and power manager. now when i unplug the laptop or plug the laptop to power, the screen goes black and comes back on again. i discovered that it was because it was switching refresh rate (50 on battery and 60 Hz on ac). i tried to change the video settings in intel's software so that it still goes to 60 hz on battery but everytime i unplug it, the setting goes back to 50. is there any way to fix this?

Did you try the other way round: Selecting 50Hz for the mains power?

Maybe it's my eyes but I can't see any difference between 50Hz and 60Hz on my T420s.

Go to msconfig and disable the three startup items, Intel Common User Interface. This has been an issue for at least three Thinkpad generations so far and this seems to be the only way to control it.

There are fixes for this problem on the Lenovo KB for the T420s and the T400.

If your intel gpu is different from the one used in the T420s or the T400 your driver directory probably looks a bit different, but you can use the two KB posts as a guide to look for the corresponding .inf file. If you can find the same alphanumeric combination as one of those described in the two links you can try the fix that is applied to that particular line. However, I don't know if it is likely to find the same line in different file part of a another driver for a different hardware.

Video drivers seem to be in this directory C:\DRIVERS\WIN\VIDEO\ regardless of generation. Don't forget to look in sub-folders.
