Hi again,
My first concern, as most of you know from previous posts, has been overall quality, and this is why i have decided to choose THINKPAD. Since i will not move it around too much, R series seems to be better for me than T. OK, But after reliability, my concern is about display. The best display for THINKPADS is the one with FlexView and IPS technology. Please first tell me that this kind just yields better viewing angle, or is overally better in all aspect (brightness, ...).
Then, is it possible to have this kind of screen with a XGA GMA950 or X1300 one, since i am not a gamer and XGA is my favorite resolution.
And if the answer to the previous question is NO, (that i think it is so), do u think it is wise to go to some other reliable brands, like ASUS or FUJITSU, to have better displays? In other words, is the difference between nonIPS screens and IPS or ASUS and FUJITSU screens that much?
thanks.

I'm pretty sure you've already heard about Flexview ad-nauseam... the Flexview screens do offer more than just better viewing angles, and it is better in person that any superfluous description.
No, it is not possible to have Flexview screens at anything lower than lower than SXGA+ or the x1300... so, if the model you are looking at has the GMA950 or XGA resolution or both, it will not come with a Flexview screen.
Fujitsu does use good PVA/MVA screens on some of its models (my old E7010 had a brilliant PVA screen which I thought was unbeatable until I saw the Flexview screens), but I've no idea which current models use these high contrast PVA/MVA screens with very good viewing angles. AFAIK, the only ASUS which had a good screen was the V6Va (which was basically an IPS screen). Most other screens used on ASUS notebooks are pretty run-of-the-mill, nowhere near comparable to IPS or even PVA/MVA screens.
cheers! -
I wish I could see some THINKPAD nonIPS and non flexview screen shots. Any link ? If not avaliable, any link to other brands screens with almost the same screen quality? Please list some other notebooks that u think are of the same screen quality as normal THINKPADS.

Might want to try Office Depot.

Zaz, I have no thinkpad at hand to check it. Fortunately, u have had Thinkpads, Compaq and now V3000. I am sure u have seen many others too. What is your opinion about nonflexview screens compared to atleast what you have had? Comparable?
-
Flexview comes only in SXGA+ or UGXA, which you dont want as i recall. Also it's in models which are out of your price range.
So why angst yourself about it?
All the thinkpad screens are okay, tho some are a bit better particularly for viewing angles and rednering images or brightness.
Perhaps more fundamental choices about the screen... standard vs widescreen, matte vs glossy. -
The Flexview screen is definantly woth the extra money.

The other ThinkPad screens I have seen are decent, but the FlexView is the best if a little less portable due to the size.
-
MaxBright is nice too - but I'm not sure if they come in Flexview flavors.

This reviewer shows a Flexview IPS screen next to a Dell standard screen.

it seems that difference is not significant when you look at straight in front, but at other angles.

So can you get this flexview on the z61t's, it doesnt say anything about it on ibms website so i didnt know.

I believe the Flexview is for the T60 line only? 60% sure.
