evenmore i want to know if i can used the second drive to load diferent operative system, maybe linux. and run the laptop from hdd one and from second hdd drive. thx for the answer.

I'm not positive here but it only makes sense for you to be able to have optical and second hard drive. I can't imagine its one or the other.
You know you don't need a second hard drive to have linux on your computer right? Dual boots are incredibly easy to set up.
As for optical drive I just bought an external one incredibly cheap on ebay that works perfectly for the few times a month I actually use it.
Just somthing to think about before you shell out the money on a base. -
yes i know that, but in the company where i am work, have forbiden the use of the notebook for personal documents etc etc,(just only work) so i think that maybe i can use the second HDD plus optical drive and have virtually one laptop for work and one laptop (second HDD + optical drive) i think, to use for my personal life. thx for you answer.

Well... you could partition your hard drive into two. That way you have Local Disk C and Local Disk D. Though, the D drive would be visible so does your boss actually check or what?

I think he is trying to avoid having his personal info. on perhaps a public work machine; therefore wants a second hdd and diskdrive for himself, virtually his own machine that can be disconnected.

You can have the HDD or optical drive at a time. You cannot use two bay devices at the same time (the same for all Lenovo bases).
There was no problem to run Linux from a second hard drive on R40. -
Here's another crazy idea:
Use the SafeGuard PrivateDisk software to create a volume. Whenever you go to work, unmount the volume. When you go home, remount it. Your personal files will still be on your normal hard drive and visible but in a volume file. You can make this file hidden as well.
Steps:
1) Launch the Client Security Solution program (Lenovo software).
2) Click on 'Protect Data'.
3) Click on 'New'.
4) Select a directory and file name for you volume file. In your case, you may want to put this somewhere uncommon.
5) Click 'Next'.
6) Choose a size for your volume.
7) Click 'Next'.
8) Select a drive letter for your volume or set it to automatic.
9) Click 'Next'.
10) Choose a file system. You would probably want to use NTFS.
11) Click 'Next'.
12) Enter a password for your volume. This is great for you since you want your data to be private.
13) Click 'Finish'.
14) Open the directory where you put your volume file.
15) Right-click on it and click 'Properties'.
16) Check the 'Hidden' checkbox.
17) Click 'Ok'.
Now, to mount/unmount the drive just go to Client Security Solution > Protect Data. Click on your volume and click 'Mount' or 'Unmount'. -
the idea is amazing, but i cant run software not autorized in the laptop, i cant partioning the disk, not allowed, is like momo26. but i think that it not possible, for that i supose that a second HDD and optical drive can work togheter. anyway, the ultrabase only have the option to swicht the bay for HDD or optical drive??. ok if it like that i cant see the real use of ultrabase because they are a lot external optical to burn and read disc, plus theyre hdd external to store data in a much better price. thx for the help.
maybe in a year they invented an ultrabase with two bay to work at the same time, is not that crazy. many people have this issue to keep work avoided the personal info.
question about X6 ultrabase
