i am looking at some x200 models on ebay. is it possible to have the 5300 card with the webcam? i thought since the 5300 uses 3x3 antenna, a camera wasn't possible?

Zaz, have you opened yours up to see what they did with the third antenna? I'd be interested to see if they just sell it with a 5300 card but leave the third antenna disconnected or something.

I've had my X200 completely apart. The top half to do the screen and the bottom half to replace the heatsink. It's not connected. It runs down to where the WiFi card is and is taped down.

Kevin, he has both the camera and the 6300, but because he has the camera, the third antenna is unused.
EDIT: i see what you mean - if they have the room for the antenna, why not just connect it...dunno.

There's three connectors on the card, but only the outside ones were hooked up when I pulled the machine apart. As the why, you got me. The card works fine, but I'm really only using it for internet.

ZaZ - is the unconnected cable in your system yellow or white?   if it is yellow then it was for WUSB.   if it is white then it was the third antenna for N.

if by chance you hooked up the yellow antenna, it's not doing you any good as it's tuned for a different frequency.

There was two unconnected cables in my machine if I recall correctly. There was a gray one and a black one that connected to the card, and two black ones taped down right by the wifi card.

if they were black antennas with red and blue sleeves at the ends then they'd be for WWAN.   that would make sense in your system due to where the WWAN card is connected.   your description sounds like you have a 2x2 system and simply connected the wrong antenna.   the third (center) antenna on N is white.   the main two are gray and black.

from what i've seen, a 3x3 + camera setup on an X200/X201 system doesn't exist.   it sounds like you have for wires (2x2) on your system and not six (3x3).

    2x2: gray + black / red + blue
    3x3: gray + black + white / red + blue + yellow

do you mean one of those antenna kits sold on ebay?   if so, there should be room somewhere, especially if not using a turbo memory, WUSB, or WWAN card.   but, i've never used one of those kits and can't say for sure.

correct... the X200/X201 systems have an expresscard/54 slot and will accept both 54mm and 34mm expresscards.

cardbus (32-bit) and PCMCIA (16-bit) are both a dying technology as they're IDE-based.   cardbus is included on T-series systems but expect it to become legacy soon.

only models with a WXGA display can have a camera.   the WXGA+ display configuration doesn't allow enough room for one.

X200 and X200s CTO and TopSeller models were offered with win 7 preloads.   some were offered with XP preloads and win 7 COAs.
