    Hi,

I bought a thinkpad from lenovo outlet. It was in the category "new" but when I first time booted it, there's already an existing user in Windows 7. The machine itself looks brand new though. I called Lenovo, one technical support staff told me this one should be a refurbished one, but a customer service staff told me it could be a new machine. Are all these new machines in outlet like this? I thought they are configured but cancelled machines.

    thx.

    Refurbished
Product was returned with the factory seal broken.
Product may or may not have been turned on.
Product may or may not have been used.

So yeah, it could have been a new machine. But apparently it wasn't. Does your order say new or refurbrished?

If the machine looks fine just redo the OS...

Though the factory should have done that...

Agreed. If it meets up to your expectation and functions fine then a simple refresh of your OS should do fine. Don't sweat, it'll be fine.

I got a "new" ThinkPad through the outlet and it had a preloaded hard drive image for some university but as far as I could tell it was new.

What is the name of the User on the laptop. Is is some generic name such as Admin, Administrator or is it more specfic like Mike, David.

When I got the laptop, it loaded "UltraImage" and began installing the university's image of Vista. During the setup it prompted for my name so as to create a user.

I assume that your's must have came with a specific name like "Mike" for you to be asking about the users?

I personally liked that I got the university's image. I got some good software for free, like Adobe Acrobat Professional.

"Free" as in "free download from pirate bay", except for the viruses. The campus license most certainly does not extend to you ;)

    Thx to everyone.

The user name was Fredo and he set up password and finger print. Not anything close to an admin.

I redid the OS and decided to keep it. The machine itself is new anyway. Windows 7 and Intel Turbo Memory were out of me expectation.

Now I feel like I'm lucky...

I would make sure Fredo didn't set up any type of BIOS password, if you haven't checked already.
