I am about to buy the x200 one of these days. My question is whether the screen is as bad as everyone else says it is? Just for reference, I am currently using a HP dv4t with LED glossy screen and a lenovo s10. I also used to have a toshiba laptop that also had a matte screen. So i have used matte screens before. Will the x200's screen be about the same quality as the lenovo s10, for those people who have used both before? or is there any where that i can see it in person? i don't really plan on doing the affs mod

It's not the matte screen that is the problem (if anything it is better than glossy screens in some cases), but the viewing angle is "eh" for detailed pictures/movies. It depends on what you plan on using your laptop for.

I went from an HP dv4 (CCFL) to an x200s. A brighter matte screen just completely destroys the dv4's screen in usability. The viewing angles are bad I guess, lots of adjusting, but when you're on battery and the screen brightness is low on both, the reflections of the glossy screen make it impossible to view it from any angle.

With the x200s I can get away with low brightness as long as I'm looking straight at it. And besides, it's a 12" screen, it's really only meant for one person to be looking at it straight on, and if you dont mind adjusting the screen everytime you adjust your position (extremely annoying to some people) it's not bad.

i think i might prefer small viewing angles so that people next to me won't see what i'm doing lol

The side to side angles are usually good, but it's the tilting of the screen backward or forward that causes the colors to invert. I found the Samsung screen in my X200 to be serviceable and panel quality can vary from one to the next, but it's never going to match a AFFS screen in terms of contrast or viewing angles. If you're interested in a AFFS, but don't want to do the mod, someone's selling a modded X200s at TPF here.
