    Hi all,

I'd really appreciate your responses to the following:

    1. Are the screen build, quality going to be the same for ALL thinkpads T60 or will it be proportionate to the price?

For example, I found this notebook on buy.com
    http://www.buy.com/prod/Lenovo_ThinkPad_T60_Notebook/q/loc/101/202314632.html

and it has T60 for sale at less than $1100. Will the screen QUALITY be the same on this screen vs. $3000 T60? (I'm talking apples and apples, particularly, I like 14.1 XGA screens...)

    2. Questios about graphics card...

    (a) It perhaps relates to the first question, but what role does a video/graphics card play in the display picture/quality?

    (b) Is there a way to get 14.1 screen XGA with a decent/standalone graphics card with 3 yr warranty under $1200?

    Thanks,
    VK

usually the xga screens come with the integrated graphics..as price goes up the screen and graphics tend to get better...for 1200 i doubt you could get a dedicated card..unless by dedicated u mean the x300 which is from the only ibms...you could go for a t42 instead as those will be cheaper

thanks for your reply. This is weird, but I searched online and it seems that T42's and T43's are priced at around the same price as the T60.

I was able to find refirbished T30's for 400-600, but that's about it.

IBM/Lenovo doesn't really lower their prices on older models when new models come out. It might seem stupid, and it does suck for people looking to get a cheaper thinkpad, but I think it's actually a good business practice. By not lowering the prices, they maintain the resale value of the computers. If I wanted to sell my (outdated) t43 today, I could probably sell it for pretty close to what I paid for it a year ago, and I doubt you could say that about most computers.

About the screens, though, you don't get a better screen if you get a more expensive t60. The cheapest models usually don't have the higher resolution screens (SXGA and UXGA) as options, but the XGA screen on a $1100 t60 should be the same as the XGA screen on a $3000 t60. The flexview screen, which is definitely the best screen, is only available on the 15" t60p, but you gotta spend the bucks to get it.
edit: The build quality of all the screens (and the t60s themselves) is exactly the same, though, regardless of the price.

That is not true. All 15" T60 SXGA+ and UXGA+ screens, whether they are P or not, are FlexView screens. The used to offer it on the R series as well, but don't anymore. The FlexView screens are the best matte screens. The rest of the ThinkPad screens are average matte screens.

I'm afraid you are incorrect: The flexview screen is NO LONGER available in the T60 - only on the T60P at 1600X1200 resolution. The 1400X1080 15" flexview on the T60 is no longer available.
