    How much does it weigh?
Can the q9000 be over clocked, or is that locked?
is the processed user upgradable, or is it soldered into the board?
What kind of battery life does it get?

    • It weighs A LOT (8.4 lbs with the 9 cell, plus another 2 pounds or so for the AC adapter).
    • You might be able to overclock the q9000, but I tend to recommend against overclocking notebook processors due to heat constraints.
    • The processor is NOT soldered so you can upgrade it fine. However, I believe this voids the warranty.
    • Battery life is not good (quoted at 2.3 hrs. w/ 9 cell, but will likely be far less if stressing a quad core CPU and workstation GPU).

On the plus side, the w700 offers a relatively obscene amount of power, some pretty cool features, and a well above average display. It fills a good purpose as a luggable workstation for CAD, photo, video editing, or similar tasks. However, I would not consider it particularly portable (except in comparison to a desktop).

Thanks, this is great news. Battery life is not bad compared to sager, I can upgrade CPU in a year when my warranty is over anyway, and It is a thinkpad. btw, i'm not getting it for gameing lol, and I can get a huge discount through my school if I buy a student discount card ( up to 29%)

For a $400 notebook it seems silly to get the warranty upgrade, but on a $2k notebook, it seems like a wiser investment. Just my opinion.

Its priced pretty well for what it is (between 1600-3000+).

If you think that the w700 weighs alot try carrying my vostro.

Do you really need such a big and powerful laptop? What are planning to do with what ever machine you get?
