I ahve a t400 with integrated mobile broadband upgradable.
    What does this mean?
I see that there is a place to insert your sim card in the battery bay. Can I insert my sim card from my iPhone and make calls and access the 3g network? Or do I need to buy this and install it in my laptop first?

Yeah, you"ll need a WWAN card. Plus, its unlikely your iphone SIM is going to work with the WWAN card.

You'd need the broadband card, and you could possibly put your iPhone SIM card in but I doubt you'll be able to make calls. To use the data service you'd need a laptop data plan which is different from your iPhone plan and typically like $60/mo or so.
