i just purchased an R61i, very pleased so far!
i am wondering if there is any point in upgrading to 4GB RAM. i already have 3GB, but i've heard that vista only "reads" 3GB or 3.5GB. i can get it really cheap from a friend, so money is not an issue here. any point?
thanks!

Welcome to the forums. Unless you will use the 64bit version of Vista (which is not provided with the laptop, and supports > 4GB of RAM), there is little point in upgrading.

thanks man

oh and another thing. this guy i know told me i should avoid having one 667MHz ddr2 and one 800MHz ddr2, because this creates some kind of unfortunate "imbalance". this is bull****, right?

I've never heard of such problems, it will run at the slower frequency so there aren't problems. The current Intel chipsets don't support 800MHz RAM anyway (works, but at 667MHz), so clocking down to the slower 667MHz stick isn't going to make any difference.

thanks again
didn't even know it doesn't support 800MHz
quick question about ThinkPad R61i and RAM
