In order to save some money I got my T60 preconfigured with windows xp home but would have like upgrade to windows xp pro. I would like to do a clean install instead of just the upgrade.
My question is if I do a clean install and simply download the thinkvantage system update will I get all of the thinkpad programs and drivers, etc.? Basically I want my system to be just like it is out of the box just with xp pro instead of xp home. If anyone has any tips that would be great.

I also got my new T60 last week. I ordered the same as yours with xp home because after 2 weeks we are suppose to receive windows vista premium. So why don't we wait until receive vista premium CD for new configuration.

I don't think we get the vista premium upgrade with the home version of xp and as far as vista goes I don't think I will be immediately upgrading to vista because I have a feeling it's going to be pretty buggy on it's launch I would rather have the stable xp pro for right now.

I agree. Wait for a SP update. I just got my new T60 with xp pro a couple days ago. I don't recall seeing the literature for the Vista Premium upgrade (not that I plan on upgrading any time soon). Where do I find this? I think I recall there being a website to sign up at...is there a time limit to sign up? Can we wait for the SP2 update to upgrade. Please include website info and any other info you might deem relevent to my questions.

the upgrade to vista is only for those who purchased a system with XP Pro, not home edition
not to mention that 60GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM and X1400 would not be enough to run vista at a decent rate, except for probably the most basic version -
I think you get upgraded to Vista Home if you bought XP Home. I ran Vista on my T42 with the 9600 and Aero just fine. I also ran it on my R60 with 512MB of memory as well without incident.
quick question about reformatting
