Hey, i just installed 64-bit Vista Ultimate onto my R61 yesterday (model number 7742cto), and i was curious what were the actual necessary drivers off of the Lenovo website?

    The website is: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67856.html

    The specs: P8300, nVidia Quadros 140M, Intel WF/Link 4965 AGN, UltraNav + fingerprint reader, 14.1"WXGA w/ Camera

So far, i know i have to install the following, based on the specs of the laptop:
    Intel Wireless LAN
    Display (nVidia Quadro 140M)
    Audio
    Ethernet
    UltraNav
    UltraNav Utility
    Active Protection System
    Integrated Camera
    Card Reader
    Fingerprint software

If someone has 64-bit vista installed on their thinkpad, is it worth it to install the other drivers, such as EasyEject, Hotkey, Keyboard customizer, system interface, thinkvantage maintenance manager, mobility center customization, power manager and management, etc.

    Also essential are:

    • Chipset driver (should be the first driver installed!)
    • System Interface driver
    • ACPI power management driver
    • Matrix storage management driver
    • All listed patches
The most reliable way to ensure that you do not miss any critical drivers and patches is to download ThinkVantage System Update and use it to determine and download necessary drivers.

Bloatware: Some people consider EasyEject, Hotkey, Keyboard Customizer, ThinkVantage Maintenance Manager, Mobility Center, Power Manager to be bloatware that slows down system performance. Others consider them jewels of the Lenovo experience. I personally have not installed them because most duplicate existing functions in Vista to some extent.

Do not confuse (1) ACPI Power Management, and (2) Power Manager. The first is a required driver. The second is Lenovo fluff.

how easy would it be for me to uninstall drivers if, after i install them, i feel they are unnecessary? additionally, are the "bloatware" you listed basically all the lenovo-added ones, or are there possibly more.

Easy, but tedious, to uninstall drivers.
    No other bloatware.

    Hope that helps.
