Close to ordering the R61 with wxga screen. Only concern is quality (ie brightness, colors, etc) of the screen. Some boards seem to hate the screen and lenovo return policy sucks. any experiences? Also thinking wxga but hate tiny text. thanks

I just got a 14.1" wxga R61 about 3 wks ago and I like it a lot. I've never owned a wxga+ but, like you, I didn't want to have to fiddle with tiny fonts and indecipherably small icons. So I went with the wxga despite the sneers you see on some of the posts on this board. My screen is sharp, pretty bright and overall just damn nice. It's brighter and more pleasing than a brand new Dell Latitude D630 wxga screen on a work-owned notebook that I use sometimes, too.
So my experience is good.

If the screen is anything like my 14" T61 WXGA, then the screen brightness and contrast is very good; especially after screen calibration with some software. By default, the Gamma setting was set too high IMO.

I have wxga+ R61 and I think font size is perfect. I had 14" SXGA+ for last 4 yrs, so this fitted perfectly for me. why dont u go to a retail store and check laptops with different resolutions before making a decision.
-
thanks for the input so far. tried going to different stores but no one had a wxga+ screen...so couldn't compare to a wxga. It is more reassuring that people seem satisfied with their screen because otherwise was contemplating getting a dell.

I also have an R61 with wxga+ and i love it. you dont get the same brilliance and clarity as some of the hi-def dell's and others but forget about them unless you never are in any sunlight or glare. my screen looks great with games, web, and documents.
oh yeah. i also have the "hated" samsung LCD. so do not worry about that either. -
And what software would that be? I'm interested in trying it out...

I have the nVidia 140M graphics card so that allowes me to adjust some video settings through the nVidia control panel. I also used Adobe Gamma. You can find it on Google easily.
Actually, here's the link:

Look at post #43. -
That seems to be a plugin for Photoshop (which I don't have)... but I found the settings in my Intel drivers anyway, so it's fine, thanks.
-
Nope. Photoshop is not necessary for Adobe Gamma. You don't even have to install it; just double click it and make an ICC profile.

Yeah i just noticed that Adobe Gamma appeared in my control panel
