I am wondering if anyone has tried using their SD slot on the X61s to enable the ReadyBoost feature of Vista. I cannot find any information whether the reader is compatible with the SDHC format and this has implications of whether to get a 2GB or 4GB card to supplement my 2GB of RAM. Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks

I had the same question. I was looking online at reviews and someone mentioned that the x40s sd card slot did not work with readyboost. Can anyone verify a performance enhancement (faster boot times of applications) with an sd card in the x61? I'm loving my new x61 but the computer isnt "snappy" at all ... application load times are so slow compared to my 4 year old desktop on xp... =(.

I don't believe the card reader is fast enough to make use of ReadyBoost.

    Has this been confirmed?

I'd like to know if the X61 can read SDHC as well.

I have a T7300 processor and 2GB memory on the Santa Rosa platform. I always thought it would "be all that", but it wasn't until I used an 4.0GB SDHC card formatted to NTFS on a USB reader that I finally got that "snappy" feel that you mentioned. It's a real trip having applications pop-up right when you click on them.

    Some observations :

ReadyBoost re-pages the cache after every restart, and my 4.0GB card takes about 2-3 minutes to fill. You'll see you HD go crazy for a while after starting, but I guess it all does help at the end.

Having your applications open with snap doesn't seem like much of a bargain after a $50+ investment, but it really does make your computing experience that much more pleasurable when things open with no delay, often faster than you can blink.

    Good luck.

    Regards,
    P

For reference, here is the card I am using :

I have read several posts on ThinkPad forums saying it is indeed possible to use a SDHC card in a X61.

If it's going to work you have to have a fast enough SD card. Vista will check when you put in the card if the card seems fast enough. If it is fast enough you will have the "speed up my system" option.

The slot is definitely SDHC compliant. This has been confirmed for both the T61 and the X61. I found this information on the thinkpads forum awhile back from an X61 user.

I am currently using a 4GB SDHC Sandisk Extreme III card on my T61 for readyboost.

I knew I should have gotten the 15.4" instead of the 14" 4:3. Be nice to have 4 gigs of readyboost internal to the laptop

I am using a 4GB SDHC Sandisk Extreme III in an X61. It works as a drive but I can't use ReadyBoost as Vista permits only one ReadyBoost drive and there is already one in use in the X61 with the Intel Turbo Memory Drive.

Does anybody know if the X61 Turbo Memory Drive can be productively disabled or at least the ReadyBoost disabled so that the larger SDHC card can be used? Has anybody done this and know how and how effective it was?

I'm glad the X61 can take advantage of readyboost. I just order one today...hope to get it soon.
