Did you go into programs and uninstall it first? Then use the removal tool to clean up as norton can come back and bite you in the behind and screw up networking. I have seen it repeatedly...

Maybe it is a newer version I have never seen and is harder to remove, hah. I hate norton.

1st time you start your laptop it asks you if you want to install it.
I clicked NO, thus it is not installed.

    What did you click?

That's why I do not understand, why some people think the Thinkpads are full with bloatware. :D
Under Bloatware I understand something which comes already pre-installed, not something which asks if you want to install it.

Valid point. Certainly not as bad as consumer systems.

In the previous generation of Thinkpads, you could hit the blue ThinkVantage button and restore your computer to its out-of-the-box state. The reinstallation routine allowed you to check the boxes of a list of software that you wanted or not.

Of course, you'll have to reinstall your other programs and data (MS Outlook, etc.) but that used to be the trick to a clean machine: buy, take it out of the box, start for the first time, hit the blue button, restore the OS without bloatware, then install third-party software, then data, then enjoy.

well i clicked no, i don't want norton on the first boot. it didn't install, at least that's what i think. but there is this shortcut in the start task named "install NIS". so i assume according to your posts that this just a link and there's nothing to deinstall?

    Correct!
It shouldn't be installed, if you clicked NO.
It is just a link to C:\SWTOOLS\antivirus\NORTONIS\ALL\MODULECUST

    That's it. ;)

Oh...well that is totally different and makes sense why there was nothing for the removal tool to well...remove. Just remove the shortcut to install if it bothers you.
