i am planning to test creating a backup drive using acronis...my current drive is working fine...the new drive is exactly the same as the current one.

question -- if i remove the current drive, insert the new drive to try/test the restore, then if i go back and re-install the original drive, will the laptop return the original state? (i.e., does the bios keep track of the drive or care if the drive is removed, another drive used temporarily, and then the original re-inserted)

    thanks

As long as the original hard drive is not damaged in any way, everything should be the same as it originally was.
