    I got a T61 766416U + 1G memory a couple of weeks ago and decided to replace the original 5K160 5400RPM 120GB hard drive to 7K200 7200RPM 200GB one.

I bought the new hard drive online and received it yesterday. I also got a 2.5'' SATA to eSATA & USB hard drive enclosure to use the original one in external way. After changed to new hard drive I restored the whole system by recovery disks without any problem. So far everything is OK.

Then I put the original one into the enclosure, but neither my laptop nor desktop can recognize this hard drive. When I plug in the USB cable, the enclosure itself works, but no any sound from hard drive. Usually you can hear the sound of disk's tuning or arm movement. I tried the new hard drive, the 7K200 one, which works with the enclosure just fine.

So I am wondering if there is any security/protection or lock mechanism on the original one or just the enclosure is not good? Does anyone have any idea about this?

    Thanks a lot,

    Stan

I had no problem with my drive, don't know what to say. Had to wipe it out and format it, but it recognized it right away

I see, guess the problem is the enclosure. I will change one and see if it fix the problem.

    thx
