    replacement palm rest

    so i had to get a replacement palm rest. but the replacement lenovo sent me has an integrated biometric scanner, one that i did not order from. is there anyway i can get this fingerprint scanner to work?

    Nope, because you don't have the hardware in the first place(assuming). Kinda like getting a free aesthetics-only feature :p

    He needs the hardware(the scanner itself) on the motherboard before it works. I'm guessing the scanner in the palm rest is JUST the indented slit, without the finger scanner itself.

    It's kinda like getting numbered door locks on a car when the vehicle itself doesn't have the wiring and hardware for it. Simply a aesthetic feature.

    If you just have the aesthetic part then you should see a slit you can look through in the palm rest, if you have the hardware then there should be a cable hanging off it or a place to plug a cable in. Past the little device attached to the palm rest I don't think there is any more supporting hardware since the scanners are pretty simple.

    It should just work if you plug in the single cable for the touch pad and Finger print scanner all you have to do is install the driver. The Scanner doesn't need much in terms of hardware as it's a simple USB device.
